In this lab we learned how to make geometric registration corrections to images by adding Ground Control Points (GCP) to the image. Geometric registration corrections are classified as either systematic thus predictable and correctable through the use of accurate models or unsystematic, random unpredictable errors that need to be corrected with a manual geometric registration correction process.
In both labs we performed an image to map geometric registration of latitude and longitude coordinates to correct for distortions in elevation. Our challenge was to present an enhanced image with a RMS error of 1.0 pixels or less. In the lab exercise we were provided the original 8 GCP that the enhanced image would be matched to; in the challenge assignment we selected our own points based on visual interpretation of an USGS topo map. Once the RMSE was below 1.0, a Bilinear Interpolation Resample method was applied to give the image a smoother appearance.
Problems I had:
1. ERDAS IMAGINE crashed too many times to count.
2. North Arrow got stuck and I could not delete or move it again.
3. Deleted my title to try to add the client required RMSE table but could not figure out how to add the table.
